The first of November is just around the corner. It’s official – we’re about to enter the winter season. The days are getting shorter and sunlight starts to become a rare sight. You tend to feel demotivated at work and find it hard to stay focused throughout the day. Your one cup of coffee has developed to an outrageous intake of caffeine, but even this doesn’t seem to lift you up.

Most of us have felt the winter blues before while others don’t seem to be bothered. But winter blues is not just a personal syndrome, it affects businesses too. We think it’s key to keep your business hot, even in the cold, so we have done some research to find the best tips out there to prevent these possible downfalls.

Get your people out of their routines

Just because everything outside is frozen doesn’t mean we have to freeze in our routines. A good way to get your employees out of the winter mindset is to shake them up. Have a brainstorm session with all employees. See if you can find knew and better ways to get the work done. Not only does this get people out of their ruts, it gives them a voice and an initiative to be more engaged in the business.

Celebrate teamwork

When going through a rough time the support of one’s co-workers is everything. Winter blues can be contagious, but so can a positive mindset. It’s therefore important to nurture good teamwork and a positive office atmosphere. This can be done through small things like motivational morning meetings or joined afternoon coffee breaks, where you take the time to appreciate each other’s work and efforts.

Hold a competition

Humans are driven by competition. Motivating them through healthy competitions will boost their work spirit and even help them keep focused on performance. It doesn’t matter if it’s a big sales goal you want to hit or if it is winning the spot as colleague of the month. The important thing is to keep it fun, lighthearted and giving them an motivating award.

Have breaks outside

Go celebrate the sun for a few minutes while it’s out. It is a known fact, that sunlight has significant effects on how we feel and how well we can produce. As a side bonus you get to breathe in some fresh air, which is the best fuel for our body and mind.

Keeping the winter workforce on top of their game can be difficult but not impossible.
